Before you start your hatch.

My humidity is too high (60 to 70%), what should I do?

It's by far the question we're asked most, and it's nothing serious: it's a setting. The first and most effective move is to open the lid's ventilation valve wider. Letting air circulate brings the humidity back down on its own within a few hours. If that isn't enough, reduce the water surface (less water, or a single tray). And if it stays high after you've removed the water and opened everything up, it's often the room air that's damp: move the incubator to a drier, airier room, away from the kitchen, the bathroom or drying laundry. Remember to dry the tray channels well too.

The display reads 38 °C, should I worry?

Aim for 37.5 °C (99.5°F) during incubation: that's the ideal figure. At a constant 38 °C the embryo develops a little too fast and the hatch can become harder. Simply lower the setpoint by half a degree, and keep 37.2 °C for the last three days.

How do I lower the temperature for the last days without losing the day counter?

Rest assured: on the DX5, the temperature setting and the day counter are two independent functions. Changing the temperature does not reset the counter. The only action that resets it is pressing the ▲ and ▼ keys together. As long as you don't hold those two keys at once, your incubation day stays intact.

How do I reset the day counter for a new clutch?

With the incubator empty, hold the ▲ and ▼ keys together until it returns to factory settings. The counter starts again from zero for your next incubation.

Where should I put the incubator?

In a room that's warm and stable, ideally 18 to 20 °C, away from draughts and direct sun. A room that's too cold makes it harder to reach temperature: it's the first tip our support team gives.

Which eggs can it hatch?

Hen, quail, duck and even goose: the two interchangeable trays adapt to the size of the eggs. The durations and settings for each species are in the incubation guide and in the ebook provided.

What happens during the hatch?

On day 18, you stop the turning, lower the temperature to 37.2 °C and raise the humidity, lid closed. The built-in egg candler lets you check the eggs without handling them. The exact schedule is in the guide.

And after the chicks are born?

For the first weeks, chicks need a heat source: that's the job of our 30 W heat plate, designed to take over from the incubator.
